Amatuer,I live in Iowa.Do alot of back yard racing. This storm is stock.Use to have Rob Shoopings old Htg 1000cc improver.(97 Storm).Awesome sled just a little to much $$$$$.Just going to work with stock classes.Need help on gearing, clutching and jetting for grass as well as ice.It run real well on ice.Has beat a 2000 800 Xcr and a big bore ultra.Any help would be great.
The 97 has 146.5hp@8000rpms stock the xcr has more power and is way different has power valves different porting ect. Storms arent that bad though deffenitly not terds!bog though.
Throw PSI pipes and Boyesen reeds on there and your up to [email protected] shop mod 800 storm=194.2@9750crank shop mod mach z=217.7@9250the poor porting design of the storm holds it back at full mod but i think 160hp is possible for trail riding on 93 octane.compared to the xcr800 HotTo Go makes a xcr 800 trail mod thats 180hp.

I recently bought a 93 Polaris Storm 750, it didnt run, needed carb work, and it has been sitting for a while. I took the carbs apart, the slides were stuck with varnish, the bowls didnt look to bad, so I just did a quick spray down, and put it back together.
I should have cleaned them out thoroughly when I had it apart, but I didnt. I put it back together, it started, and on me test drive, I noticed a low to mid throttle bog, and a slight back fire at times.A few things, first, the carb vent hoses are gone, and I am seeing confronting ways on how to route them, and what is best. Also, what jetting to run with how they are routed. What is the best way to route them? And what jetting to use? There are a couple TSB's out there, along with people on other forums with different ideas. One TSB says to cut off the check valves, attach all the inner hoses between the carbs with T's, and just vent the hoses straight down without check valves, with jets 390 mag, 370,370.
Another TSB says to hook them all together, and vent them into the airbox, and jet accordingly. Then people on other forums, are saying to just vent them into the handle bars, and some that say just leave the hoses off. Not sure how to run them, and what jets to use.Another problem is the oil cable was frayed, so I took it off. Should I get a new one? Or just premix, and if I premix, what should I use for jets then? Scott, I would get to your local dealer and have them pull up the carb and vent line routing page on the parts catalog and order all the correct vent lines and check valves if applicable. Secondly I would refer to the stock jetting and run that and of course, order a new oil pump cable.
Take your carbs off again, clean them out, pull your tank off, clean it out, replace all your gas lines (especially the one in the tank) and impulse line between the fuel pump and crank case and start fresh with everything. Shouldn't break the bank to do all this and then you will know exactly what you have and everything will be stock as it was set up from the factory. The problem with the stock set up, is it ran lean, and burnt up the cylinders, that is why there were so many TSB's. I think originally they had them vented going into the air box, and the air pressure would change so much, during accel, and decel, it made the carb over fill on decel, and would lean out on accell. Then I believe the next TSB, they had you pull the check valves off, then vent them up the handle bars, but there was a certain jetting for it, I dont recall what it was.
But I read if you set it up that way, if it is windy, it can cause the air to push into the vent hoses, and push the fuel out of the bowls, up into the needle jet. Then I read that you should just vent them straight down, without check valves, then jet it accordingly.I was hoping someone had gone through this already, and knew what the best way, and what jets to set up.As for the cable, I was planning on putting on a new cable, but it is $111, and I wanted to test drive it, to see what it all needed.
